BIOGRAPHY

Layzell studied at Rhodes University and completed a Post-graduate diploma in Fine Art from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2013.
From 2003 to 2007 she returned to the Painting School of Montmirail in the South West of France (near Toulouse) where she developed her life-long interest in colour theory. Visiting resident artists included British Abstract artists Gary Wragg and John Mitchell. Layzell exhibited extensively in the UK before returning to Cape Town in 2008.

1990 – 1994 – BA Fine Art, Rhodes University. Painting & English Literature.

RESIDENCIES

2014 – Luvey ‘n Rose, Bo-Kaap, Cape Town.
Mentorship by Jenny Altschuler.

2008 – Gary Wragg workshop. ‘Exploring the Legacy of Matisse’
Two weeks at Matisse’s former studio ‘Villa La Reve’ near Nice.

2006 – 5 months in Brunswick, Melbourne, Australia.
Mentored by Jeffrey Makin of Port Jackson Press.

2003/4/7/8 – The Painting School of Montmirail, SW France.
Two weeks each summer under the tutorage of colour theorist Francis Pratt.
